Wow. It's been a long long time.
I've been wanting to write and record a new song for many years. I find it incredibly hard to motivate myself to do it, mostly because I know that music is not my strongest suit. I wish it was. I wish I could just come up with great lyrics and melodies all the time, write haunting arrangements and sing like an angel. If I could, I would hardly do anything else. I get the lyrics part right sometimes, but the rest ... not my greatest strength.
So I'm glad I finally did it. After years without composing, I forced myself to sit down and just do it. Shia LaBeouf would be proud of me. The result is, I suppose, nothing special. It sounds a lot like some of my more forgettable songs. However, the arrangement is pretty nice. And I put some extra work into the lyrics video, which I am quite proud of. Of course I fucked up the settings, so the video is not in HD (-.-) and for some reason, only God and true professional video editors can guess (Seriously, why is this so damn hard? Why are there so many standards and none of them work? I'm not technologically illiterate, this shouldn't be so hard to figure out every single time!), the font looked pretty bad in the final video file, even though it looks fine in the preview. I tried everything I could think of until the result was finally acceptable. So even the part I like most annoys me. That's how it usually goes.
Whatever.
At the end of the day, I managed to do something I've been longing to do for a long time. And that's the important part. I hope some people will like the song and the video. Maybe some can relate to the themes. Maybe not. I hope I'll be able to motivate myself more often. I want to write and record music, I just don't always know how. Maybe I'll even find people who'll record the singing (which, again, not my strongest suit).
The bird in the clip is something I used to draw a lot when I was around ten or twelve. You could call him an original character (and I hear #OCs super popular with the kids these days). Maybe he'll make an appearance in another video one day? Who knows.
As always, you can download my recording for free, as long as you don't use it commercially. And bonus points if you can figure out my frustrated mumbling at the beginning ;)
